RBCC Parliamentary Lunch hosted by Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede,
House of Lords Tuesday 20th March 2007

On Tuesday 20th March 2007, RBCC London Office held the RBCC Parliamentary Lunch at the House of Lords. The lunch was hosted by Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede. The delegates were addressed by Dr Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper, Head of EMEA Equities,Manager of the Baring Russia Fund & Baring Eastern Europe Fund, Baring Asset Management. Baring Asset Management is an international investment management firm with investment skills, clients and business locations spanning world markets. Their investment competency encompasses developed and emerging market equity, fixed income and multi-asset portfolio management services offered to institutions, retail investors and private individuals. Dr Abu Leil-Cooper was upbeat about the investment returns in Russia and analysed the economy using four categories of analysis: growth, liquidity, currency, management. In each of these areas Russia scores well, although of course there are well known shortcomings in some of these areas — property rights being an obvious example. A wide-ranging and lively discussion probed her encyclopaedic knowledge of Russian business opportunities and constraints. We would like to thank Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede for hosting the lunch and Ghadir for dedicating time to address RBCC members and guests. The RBCC holds a lunch in the Houses of Parliament for people with business interests in Russia twice a year. If you would like to discuss the latest developments in the Russo-British political, commercial and economic situation at the forthcoming lunch, please contact Chaslav Frim at RBCC London Office, chaslav.frim@rbcc.co.uk
